Filed under: Capitol Hill • Controversy

Democrats in the House are raising the stakes to find out whether former Vice President Cheney did in fact order the CIA not to tell Congress about a counter-terrorism program. They just may ask Cheney to pay them a visit on Capitol Hill. CNN's Jim Acosta reports.

Go for it Dems!!!!

Bush and Cheney have a lot of explaining to do about a lot of things from 2001 to 2008.

We'll get those war criminals on trial yet!

Honestly you are asking one of the most evil men on the planet to come forth and tell the truth.....Do you really think that is going to happen? Cheney feels absolutly above the law and totally justified in his greed for profit and oil at the expense of American lives. Cheney should be in prison and tried for war crimes. End of story.

This hearing better be under oath.

Go demos? lol I can hardly believe a word that they have to say here either!! It is funny to see that ANYONE does anymore!! Cheney said he did not even have the program running and does not have to notify Congress until it is in operation! Better yet, go get Pelosi! These are the liars in office RIGHT NOW! You, the people, will know that the Bush Cheney policies were set there to protect you ...the moment that they hit our land with yet one more terror attack! THEN, and only then, will you see how terribly the Demos are actually protecting you! We are now nothing more than sitting ducks due to the irresponsible lifting of the protections already put in place! When another 9/11 hits, you will understand ...then you can blame the demos for lifting these protections and placing us all in EXTREME danger! We actually needed someone MUCH better to lead our homeland security! What he put in there is just a joke! She done nothing for her state (AZ) while there, and will only harm us as a people while she has her reign of worthlessness for us as a people! We deserved MUCH better that this!

I believe that Pelosi and most of the demos in office right now KNEW about the waterboarding! They have lied and lied! After all of this time, NOW??? 7 more demos came to her defence!! Where were they this whole time? Oh yes!! It took some time to get thier story straight!!

It is war people! I would rather throw a bit of water on these terrorists, and in the end, prevent another terrorist attack! If they were about to bomb your home, would you want a little water thrown on before hand? Or would you people actually risk the very lives of your loved ones to protect the terrorist who is about to fatally harm your children and families? HE WAS PROTECTING U! The president that you currently have lies to the American People so much more than ANY ADMINISTRATION in the past! Pay more attention and maybe you will all see this in the end! I just hope it does not take yet another attack for you to see this! That would only hurt America further than it is already hurt!

Why bother the bastard will LIE

alexander   July 16th, 2009 8:44 am ET

Why would any real American question the u.s. policy that will help protect this nation. Some of you must know that is some of us who read nonfiction and don't spend a life time watching the trash and sports on T.V.that fools like Janet Reno stopped intelligent officers from talking to crimminal investigaters, which would have or could have saved all the people in N.Y. from dying .
Do you not think that their should be an investigation to find out who and why these idiot fools, so called Americans, which I doubt they are should explain to the nation what causes them to think in such wierd ways that shoud be considered crimminal.
Their is no doubt in my mind that there are to many people in this country working to destroy us, and they are AMERICANS?

Bernice   July 16th, 2009 8:58 am ET

They all do Nancy! I think this administration does so more than ANY OTHER in all of American Histroy! They should ALL be held accountable! (Starting with this admin!!)

laura   July 16th, 2009 9:36 am ET

I think Mr. Cheney would find it hard to testify as he does not seem to know what "truth" is. He could be imprisoned for perjury or worse if he did. He also does not understand the words honor, decency, or American values.(not to be confused with Republican values which are NOT the same thing.) This poor man would have done much better in some country where expectations of leader are much lower. Guatemala, Haiti, Columbia, or even Syria come to mind. He is not what any real American should strive to be.

Wingnuts of the week

What's a Wingnut? Someone on the far-right wing or far-left wing of American politics. In a polarized two-party system, they have disproportionate influence and too often define the terms of debate. With "Wingnuts of the Week," commentator John Avlon tries to take that power back.
