If the McCain/Palin ticket had won, this would be Dick Cheney's 3rd term as President of the United States. Glad that more Americans came out to vote!

Bev - NYC   June 16th, 2009 12:07 pm ET

Apology given and accepted. Can Ms. Palin now go any and stop acting like the second coming of Susan B. Anthony.

Tracy   June 16th, 2009 3:03 pm ET

Would have been a lot funnier if he had said it was one of Obama's daughters getting screwed by A-Rod huh?

Arnando Montoya   June 16th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

Just an issue blown up out of proportion, letterman is a comedian.
He apologized time to move on..........If Palin was concern about the remark where was she when her daughter got pregnant????

Think about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tammy   June 16th, 2009 7:17 pm ET

He's a disgusting old man, not much of a comedian.

Larry   June 17th, 2009 2:00 am ET

Stupidity is defining the Republican party.

It was a bad joke and he apologized.

Every time I see Sarah Palin on TV it reminds me to vote Democrat.

Bernice   June 17th, 2009 5:37 am ET

I am the mother of teenage daughters and do NOT appreciate the horrible humor as we see it on the television daily! He owed this appology, and finally gave it. It was accepted, but this is not an issue that should just \"go away\". TV personel has to be a little more public friendly when they are speaking to the people! If this were my daughter that he had said this about, I would be crossing this country right now going after Letterman!! Which one of you great parents would not? Could you imagine if he had said this about your 14 year old daughter??
And, Armondo, that is about the stupidest thing I have heard! ! He said something horrible about young women and he should never get away with this! It will only promote abuse to women and children in the end! That is acts which have stopped a long many years ago and has NO place returning to our culture as we know it today!
The mom, Palin, is going to be concerned about the remark regardless of the actions of her older (ADULT) daughter! So what?? She got pregnant! And life goes on ... BUT WE DO NOT ABUSE THE 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER !!! What has become of us when we as a society feel it ok to do this to our very own children! Let him say that about mine! He would see a mom, outraged, protecting her daughter (from the ole pervert) and go after a throat shot.(just like he gave the daughter)!! And David, you should not be so happy that the people came out to vote! Don\'t hold your breath!! This president has made sooooo many terrible mistakes with our money and GIVES IT AWAY daily! (for all of us to pay back in the end) We put terrorists in lovely resort beach front homes when there are soooo many out of work right here!( who were not terrorists) Pay attention people! Your country is being stolen from us, and you the people voted for this takeover! Watch some cnn and fox news! They at least are telling the public the truth, not a cherry coated version of it! By the time this admin. is finished, he will hold the office for at least 40 years, and we will end up under communist rule! This is exactly where we are heading people! That is what progressive govt. is!! Now we know who to blame! You voted for this to be done to ouur country and its people! We will be bankrupt and communist before he is done with us! Watch the right news! Cnn orr Fox! It is not that they are sending fear! They are sending you the truth, for on most of the stations, you are being decieved! Thank God that we still have some rights to free speech so I know that I can view Fox and CNN and get the thruth. All of you should too. I am tired of watching our own country downgrade us and our military across the globe! We treat our own military like crap, we say horrible things about them, we let them take the blame for thier comanding officers actions, and we do not support our troops at all! This admin. had downgraded its people so many times that I have lost full respect in anything it has to say, and once a democrat, will not be the next time around! I am one who is about to fight for my country! All of you should pay attention and stop losing all of your constitutional rights! This admin. needs to end its tyranny and fear tactics used to scare the US people into thinking the problem is alot worse than it really was, just to talk you out of your money, and your country! Wake up!! Your Americans!! I thought you were all a little smarter than this! I am hoping that you will all look at the other side carefully! They are actually telling you all the thruth!

And, one final; thought ...SHAME ON YOU DAVID LETTERMAN! Assuting a child in such a filthy manner on national tv! You should be holding your head in total shame, right along with the tv station that employes you!

LIN   June 17th, 2009 7:46 am ET

You go Bernice! I second EVERYTHING you have said in your post. If more Americans paid attention, they could see this too. But sadly, this country is producing sheep to follow the "leader".

I am disgusted to think WE the American people will pay the bills for the very companies that get to charge outrageous interest rates, take your home when you have a bad run of luck, and they are using OUR money to do it to us. You have to love a president that does not see the irony in that situation!

And David Letterman is a joke himself! He is a dirty old man that always finds the most inappropriate things to say as humor. I personally do not watch that pervert, nor any of the other so called comedians that are on late night TV. Raising children is bad enough without that kind of talk. Call me old fashioned if you want, but children are growing up to fast with to much inappropriate information provided through the TV.

Mike   June 17th, 2009 11:44 am ET

Sarah Palin is the one who put her children up on stage and made them a big part of the public eye during her most recent election. Most parents – you would thing- would shelter their kids a bit more instead of trying to make them spokespersons for whatever their Mother's political agenda may be. They were paraded in front of the camera for the whole world to scrutinize and when a joke is made then Gov Palin flips out and uses it to get back into the public eye once again and both she and the media continue to harp on something so unimportant instead of discussing something more relevent like the poor 18 year old soldier just killed in Iraq or the kid starving right here in our own country.

Wingnuts of the week

What's a Wingnut? Someone on the far-right wing or far-left wing of American politics. In a polarized two-party system, they have disproportionate influence and too often define the terms of debate. With "Wingnuts of the Week," commentator John Avlon tries to take that power back.
