What’s on Tap – Monday May 11, 2009

Here are the big stories on the agenda today:

In just a few hours President Obama takes on the crushing cost of health care.  He's secured a deal with several healthcare providers – which could save the nation trillions over the next decade.  We're live at the White House with new details.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is hitting the talk show circuit and he's taking no prisoners.  Cheney is criticizing fellow Republicans for shifting too far to the left.  He said he didn’t even know former Secretary of State Colin Powell – was still in the party.

A trolley operator says he was texting while driving and not paying attention during a crash that sent 49 people to the hospital in Boston.  This morning – new fallout. The head of the Boston-area transit announcing plans to fire all train drivers if they even carry cell phones on board.

His Holiness in the Holy Land.  Pope Benedict has arrived in Israel for a five-day visit, and he’s already making headlines, calling for a separate Palestinian state.

Homeless, and hit up for rent.  Some of New York City’s homeless will soon be forced to pay to stay in shelters.  The city, in a cash crunch of its own is now enforcing a ten-year-old law, but is it killing peoples’ hopes of ever getting out?

Thanks for staying up with the latest. We may not like what we hear or read, but that is the way it is in today's times.
Cannot believe that this trolley operator was doing the same thing as an incident that happened in California and caused havoc! Any ground public transportation operator should never be allowed or even think of texting while driving and why are cell phones even allowed when these people are working?

Dick Cheney is not even worth the time of day for news reporting.
His actions within his political career have remained a disgrace to that of America.
Who the heck is going to want to buy the memoirs of an ex-vice President more coward than hero?
Cheney was so ignorant his decision for warfare did not even include translators before the invasion of Iraq. How does one win the hearts and minds of the populace and not even converse in the native language.
The Republican party would succeed far better if it ban his presence of their party

Health Care problems will never be adequately solved until the Federal Govt establishes some way to allow Americans to go to he grocery and purchase healthy food at a lower cost than the unhealthy options. In order to do that, a lot of toes would have to be stepped on. A lot of companies are making a lot of money providing us easy means to self-destruct.

He will never get the cost of health care under control the big business will never let that happen they are to greedy and if he does get it under control they will just get a goverment bailout that we will have to pay for. but you will never put this on the air so I am just venting to here my self

Bob Bechtel   May 11th, 2009 8:18 am ET

And this homeless paying rent is just one more sign thi the littel guy get kicked to the curb whilethe greedy rich get goverment bail out on thetax payers dime .And agian you will are this I am venting to here my self

The homeless story is just another example of how big government has lost touch with the poor and needy in the country. Wanting a homeless person to pay for housing will drive them back onto the streets.

I am a devoted CNN follower. And today's show was a joy because John Roberts was back hosting. It appears when he is there the show has a more calming and smooth reporting approach. An I make this comment after watching today's show with the visiting co-host. Now it just maybe there voice deliverance I don't know, but because the show begins so early in the morning (sometimes) when he is not there an erractic corresponding approach is not what you want to see and hear in the morning.

I missed the full remarks on the Morning Show May 11 about NOT paying your credit cards. How can I find those comments?
Thank you.

Wingnuts of the week

What's a Wingnut? Someone on the far-right wing or far-left wing of American politics. In a polarized two-party system, they have disproportionate influence and too often define the terms of debate. With "Wingnuts of the Week," commentator John Avlon tries to take that power back.
