I am surprised that the Obama Administration has not made changes to "gays" being in the servce. He is trying to change everything else. How unfortuate that this very well-educated person was discharged from the service and sent home from Iraq because he was gay, especially if he was doing his job.

The president really needs to step up the withdrawal of Iraq and send more troops to Afghanistan. This is the main front on the extremists and we should not be too concerned with the killings of the civilian population in the southern and western parts of the country because they are mainly supporters or sympathizers of the Taliban. The kids may be the next generation of the extremists and the mothers i'm sure feed these extremists. Unless they stand up against the extremism i would not stop attacks on areas where we are being fired upon!

Does the American public realize how many actual past criminals are serving with registered offenses they waived because they need to keep their numbers up, or how many spouse abusers or men or women who cheated with children out of wedlock? Real people serve – the only difference is that they are ALL heroes like Choi willing to lay down their lives for this country. THANK HIM and get rid of this archaic policy. President Obama needs to bring the military into the 21st century not just with weapons but with this hypocritical morality as well. Choi was born gay_he made no moral choice and he is a hero.

comment about dan choi . any millitary person would tell you that gay people in the millitary giving orders to straight people is humiliating its like having trying to keep from laughing every time they blert out an order they discharged sweet pants because hes a dangerous distraction.

Let me add that spouse abusers and cheaters are not heroes to me but the moral dereliction policy does not apply to them as I know many who serve still. Choi is none of that. This soldier stood up with the integrity and honesty he was taught in the military- and we would be honored to send him care packages and support if the Pentagon and our President revise this harmful policy causing us to lose the cream of the crop because of an identity they were born with. And if you are unsure about this- remember he with all our other heroes have and will continue to be willing to pay the ultimate price for our freedoms and way of life.
That is the greatest gift and we thank him!

I know plenty of military who are sure enough of themselves and their mission not to be distracted by someones sexual affiliation. If they are that easily distracted,they need to find a new career and not endanger their brothers and sisters in arms. How sad.

I am so proud of Dan Choi. Its time to realize we are all Human Beings. He served his country with honor, and Dignity, this dont ask dont tell, is so ridiculous, soldiers and others are dying all over the World, we need to care for them and their families, Sexual Orientation is such a minor subject compared to people losing lives. Dont be afraid to come out. I have sung in the chorus with Dan, he is a credit to American Society. Way to go Dan.
